Dark Horizons History
Monday - January 2, 1992
9:00 PM EST - 11:00 PM EST
The 1st show of Dark Horizons on WMNF 88.5 FM - with Theresa and George, at the time the program was actually a part of what the station called the Underground Circus. Other shows had editions of the Underground Circus so we decided to go with the Dark Horizons Edition but this is when the name actually began and we started running promos with the now almost infamous "Dark Horizons" voice tag! The show at this point featured a wide array of NEW Alternative music but our focus was more on the Gothic/Industrial/Electronic side of things. We still played a variety of Punk and New College Rock too.

11:00 PM EST - 2:00 AM EST
This is actually when we dropped the Underground Circus moniker completely - Theresa and George were still the hosts with Ed joining the show in the late 90's. The Underground Circus programming strip was essentially broken up and we took over the old Freak Show timeslot. Over 7 years we developed a new audience and actually became more popular in this timeslot. Musically we dropped most of the college rock and went exclusively to Gothic/Industrial/Electronic/Ethereal and Punk. In 1998 we decided to go exclusively to the format that we have now! Lots of features came and went during this time too - we had the Coffin Classics feature to highlight old songs that we liked - The traditional Punk Xmas Special and many more.

9:00 PM EST - 11:00 PM EST
After the sweeping program changes in 2003 we were moved back into a primetime edition, albeit one hour shorter, but now when our audience could hear us. The show was now consistently hosted by Theresa, Ed and George weekly and we added a lot of new features to the show as well:Theresa's Silly Question of the Week, Netherworld News and making Brother Fire embarassed every week by introducing him in a ridiculous way!

Renewed for another 2 years on WMNF, Dark Horizons was ready to branch out to the web! After many requests from our longtime listeners, in October of 2005, we began the Darkcasts, downloadable versions of the weekly shows, so that a greater number of people could "tune in" to the show whenever they liked. This rapidly caught on and expanded the listenership of Dark Horizons. People began listening in from all over the world to the little radio show that everyone said couldn't, but we knew that there was an audience out there dying for a chance to hear something different and new. The show had it's largest fundraiser ever in October of 2006, just before announced program changes that were due to start in January 2007.

9:00 PM EST
Exactly at 9:00 PM EST at the time the show started the new website was born! Now with new graphics, clearly defined areas to hear the music and an all important forum. After many requests for a forum, this now gave Dark Horizons listeners a way that they can share their thoughts and ideas on the show, music or on other dark things of their choosing. This ushered in a new "look" for the radio show.
